Connect to SharePoint from Power BI Desktop

When connecting to a SharePoint folder make sure that the address is correct.

Open the SharePoint site and navigate to the Home folder.

Copy the URL from the address bar.

https://EXAMPLE.sharepoint.com/sites/test-datacapture
IMPORTANT: Make sure that there is no trailing slash after the site name
IMPORTANT: Make sure that any text after the site name is removed

If you get an error of “Access to the resource is forbidden.”, check that you have access to the SharePoint site by navigating to the document that you are wanting to connect to.

Then check that Power BI can connect to the site.

In Desktop Power BI, navigate to File - Options and Settings - Data Source settings

Choose the data source that you are trying to use.

Click on the Edit Permissions button.

Choose Microsoft Account and sign in using your details.

Connect to account

The Windows account will not work.
The password will need to be reset every time it expires.
