FORMULATEXT
New Excel function in Excel 2013
The FORMULATEXT function simply returns the formula from any cell.
Syntax
FORMULATEXT(reference)
The reference can be a cell reference or a range. If a range is used, only the first cell value is returned.
Comments
A #N/A! value is retuned if the reference does not contain a formula, if the reference is in a closed workbook or if the formula has more than 8192 characters.
Best to use
- To document worksheet formulas.
- Temporarily to check that a formula is consistent
Tip
Using the key combination Ctrl + ’ will show all formulas on the sheet. Using it again will revert back to the formula results.
