Sort by a column not used in Power BI visual

This steps through how to sort a column by another column which is not used in a Power BI visual.

This is a must have feature for time intelligence analysis. If dates have been formatted as text, Apr-2022 will be appear before Jan-2022.

Click on the *Data icon in the left menu.

Select the table to be sorted and click on the column to be sorted.

Navigate to the Column tools tab and click om the Sort by column icon.
Select the surrogate column to be used for sorting.

The columns must both have the same format.
In example screenshots the YYYY-MM column is used to sort the MMM-YYYY column.
Both columns are text format.
When the column is used in a visual it will be sorted by the surrogate column.
